"A good plan, a lot of hard work and terrific people. I couldn't do it without them."

That philosophy has led to a 56 percent average annual revenue growth over the past three years, said Tappouni, whose company did not disclose its annual revenue figures outside the independent third party that collected them for The Business Journal list of 50 fastest-growing companies.

As the company evolved over the years, Tappouni said they found a niche in sustainable construction, something they've been doing for several years.

"We look at every project with an eye toward the environment," Tappouni said. "Use less, build responsibly, low impact -- that's my personal philosophy. We should all do our part to protect the environment."

Tappouni is renovating the company offices, which will be certified by the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program, the industry's most recognized green stamp of approval.

"We walk the talk," she said.

Tappouni also believes it's important for Breaking Ground to be involved in community endeavors

"We're building a reputation in the community," Tappouni said. "We want to be a part of everything going on in Jacksonville."
